COLLABORATIONS WITH NATURE

They offer a rarified encounter between your imagination, and the incredible variety of natural environments and materials so often overlooked in our busy lives. Limited to 12 people, these 1-day ephemeral sculpture workshops engender intimate yet expansive creative experiences using Nature as a catalyst and touchstone. The experience of making an ephemeral artwork enables a unique interaction with Nature, enhancing connectedness and wonder. The focus of the day is investigative, process orientated and experiential. The workshop will provide the time, space and inspiration for you to create works using only the materials and elements found on site on the day of the workshop. I will provide a framework of ideas, and a safe and inspiring environment for you to create in a meaningful and positive way bringing with me the knowledge and experience of collecting, processing and re-assembling a myriad of materials.

Your ‘keepsake’ from the day will be in the form of photographs, writings, recordings and memory. Working closely with natural materials over the past 20 years has brought so many joyful surprises and positive experiences for me. My hope is by offering small scale workshops many people may have the opportunity to creatively engage with the natural environment in a rich and sensitive way, bringing awareness and rebirth to things which are usually bypassed and unseen. I have found throughout my career that the process of focusing on and rearranging of natural materials brings me into a state of presence or awareness that is both peaceful yet potent with possibility. The natural found materials I use have become a set of keys, unlocking doors to memory, science, history and imagination.

The experience of making an ephemeral artwork enables a unique interaction with your environment. This workshop will provide the time, space and inspiration for you to create a work or number of temporary sculptural works using only the materials and elements found on site on the day of the workshop. I will present a framework of ideas and facilitate inspirational exercises to fire your imagination and then we will explore, gather, re-create and record. Your keepsake of the day will be in the form of photograph/video/ recording, writing and memory.
We will be working outdoors for up to 5hrs during the workshop.
Please come prepared for this with anything you think you may need in particular as well as.
